PROCEDURES

Most of the cases that we have listed are for Inmates that write us for “Wrongfully Convicted Services” through our “For The Innocent Resolutions.”(FTIR) These cases are going through an investigative process. FTIR services do not include legal, expert, and forensic services or pay for the cost of these services. FTIR services do not provide any services, cost, or assistance to families of wrongfully convicted inmates. So once it is determined that there will be other cost other than investigative, these cost are usually handled by the C. J. Ford Justice Foundation. (CJFJF)

WE UNDERSTAND THAT ALL SITUATIONS AND CASES THAT WE MAY RECEIVE MAY NOT BE BY INNOCENT PARTIES.

After we go through the initial process of our review, we have to make a decision on whether we can proceed with services for that specific inmate. If we can not do anything for the inmate, or we feel that the evidence doesn’t favor innocence, we will write a letter to the inmate telling them that we can not proceed to the next step in assisting them.

STEPS

PHASE 1- Receiving

The situations and cases that require assistance of the CJFJF are determined by the board and members.

PHASE 2- Processing & Classification

First CJFJF must determine if the situation or case qualifies for assistance from CJFJF and if so, how much assistance. The situation or case must be determined as indigent to qualify for service paid for by the CJFJF and other remedies must have been exhausted.

Indigent situations and cases are put on a waiting list that are determined by money available in the “Indigent” funds which is a combination of all indigent donations. However, if funds are received for a specific situation or case the money is used for that situation or case.

PHASE 3- Development

The situations and cases that are accepted by the CJFJF will be later developed to determine if this case is something that we can work on with CJFJF money.

PHASE 4- Acceptance

When a situation or case gets to this phase, we have decided that we will provide funds. The speed of paying for the item in question are based on available money in the Indigent fund.
